CHECK OUT THE UPDATED VERSION HERE: [link]

A mockup of what I imagined Doctor Who's google doodle would be like next year (for his 50th birthday) Doctor Who is the longest-running sci-fi show ever (since 1963) and a British icon so I think it would be appropriate to have a google doodle on that day, at least in the UK.

I switched the colour of the 'g' and the 'l' to keep the blue tardis.

Done in Inkscape.

For those not familiar with the show, the letters are Gallifreyan (from Gallifrey, the doctor's home planet) and are taken from his crib. They supposedly spell out his real name, so I thought it would be cool to use his name to create the actual doodle.

Check out this zoomed out version, as if in a browser. [link]

EDIT: Thank you to everyone for the faves. I used to thank everyone personally but I've had so many for this that I can't. So once again, THANKS!

EDIT: This picture is now on tumblr. Someone posted it there and it is getting quite a lot of attention (at least more than I would have expected). Check it out: [link]

Amazing work. I really hope Google make this homage to the series.

Nice! I hope Google uses this.

A friend of ours is getting married next month and his wedding invitations were hand-drawn in Gallifreyan and common. Both bride and groom are graphic artists. Their engagement notices were also hand-done in Gallifreyan.

That's cool. I don't know if there is an actual equivalent to our alphabet as I just used the circles on the Doctor's crib but that sounds cool.

This is awesome work if I may say so Hugo, saw it on Facebook. It has appeared on a few pages. You are aware however that at least two Doctor Who Facebook pages are claiming this as their own work, copyright included? Thought it may be of interest to you to know if you didn't already. But to finish as I began, awesome work this is

I wish. In the meantime, I'm working on an updated version of the doodle with a TARDIS that more closely resembles 11th's. I'll post it when I'm done.

I love the fact that you went and checked out the baby crib to get his name. I wish Google would use this. It truly would be fantastic. The line work in this is just so clean and beautiful.
You know I think it would be crazy if anyone had to write Galifren by hand. imagen the scribes going crazy just trying to write a sentence. Well maybe the Timelord could get away with writing by hand. They are lords of time after all.
